Kipgoulash - Csirkepörkölt

Chicken stew

Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken (preferably chicken legs/drumsticks)
  • 2 onions
  • 1 tbsp Paprika powder
  • Oil
  • 1 or 2 bell peppers
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp Goulash cream (Mild or Spicy)
  • 1 tbsp Paprika cream (Mild or Spicy)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Crème fraîche (tejföl)

Preparation 

Peel and finely chop the onions. Heat oil in a large pan and sauté the onions until golden brown. Remove the pan from the heat and sprinkle with Paprika powder. Place the chicken pieces in the pan and sear them for a few minutes.

Season with salt and pepper. Add the Goulash cream, Paprika cream, and approximately 200 ml of water. Cut the bell peppers and tomatoes into cubes or strips and add them to the pot after a short while. Cover and let it simmer gently for about an hour. Once the chicken is tender, stir in the crème fraîche at the very end to create a silky sauce.

Chicken paprikash is delicious when served with homemade Galuska (dumplings).
