Aranygaluska

Aranygaluska

Ingredients

  • 500g flour
  • 20g yeast
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 300ml milk
  • 100g butter
  • 50g sugar
  • A pinch of salt
  • For the topping:
      • 200g ground walnuts
      • 150g sugar
      • 80g butter (melted)
      • 1 tbsp vanilla sugar

Preparation

Mix the flour, yeast, sugar, milk, butter, egg yolks, and a pinch of salt into a firm dough. Let it rise for a while until doubled in size. Roll the dough out on a floured surface. Using a round cutter or an inverted glass, cut out small circles (dumplings).

Grease a round baking pan or cake tin. Dip each piece of dough into melted butter, then roll it in the walnut-sugar mixture. Layer the dumplings in the tin. Sprinkle any remaining butter and walnuts over the layers. Cover and let it rise for another 30 minutes until it has doubled in size again.

Bake in a preheated oven at approx. 180°C for 30–35 minutes. The aranygaluska is ready once it is golden brown. Finally, sprinkle with vanilla sugar or powdered sugar.

Arany means gold, referring to the golden-brown color of the pastry. Traditionally, aranygaluska is pulled apart by hand (not sliced) and dipped in vanilla custard or chocolate cream. It is a wonderful dessert for any celebration or birthday party.

Enjoy your meal!
